O presente artigo é fruto das discussões realizadas na dissertação de Mestrado em Educação cujo título foi “Estereótipos étnicos nas representações de crianças escolarizadas em São Luís do Maranhão” apresentada ao Programa de Pós-Graduação em Educação da Universidade Federal do Maranhão. O objetivo do artigo é situar a relação existente entre estereótipos étnicos e representações sociais, fazendo uma breve apresentação destes a partir das ideias de Jodelet, Moscovici, Tajfel, Batista, Fernandes, Bastide. Concluimos que existe uma estreita relação entre estereótipos e representações sociais. Palavras-chave: Estereótipos. Representações sociais. Preconceito. ABSTRAC This article is a result from discussions made in dissertation entitled “Ethnical stereotypes in the representations of children in school age in São Luís, Maranhão”, presented to the Masters in Education Program of Federal University of Maranhão. The purpose of the article is set the relation between ethnical stereotypes and social representations, by doing a brief presentation of them from Jodelet, Moscovivi, Tajfel, Batista, Fernandes and Bastide ideas.
